Job Description

As the General Manager – Customer you will be critical in the ongoing success of this business.  Reporting to the Chief Executive and a member of the senior leadership team in NZ, the focus of this role is to spearhead our commercial strategy, driving sustainable revenue growth and market leadership in New Zealand's competitive FMCG landscape. You will transform business sales into a market-leading force by cultivating strategic customer partnerships, identifying breakthrough growth opportunities, and building high-performing teams that consistently outperform targets.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and execute innovative sales strategies that consistently deliver revenue growth and exceed profit targets
  • Identify untapped market segments, develop penetration strategies, and create new revenue streams that outpace industry growth rates
  • Elevate key account relationships from transactional to strategic partnerships that unlock mutual value creation opportunities
  • Identify and mentor high-potential talent, accelerating their growth into future leadership roles
  • Guide the sales organization through strategic change initiatives that enhance capability, efficiency, and commercial performance
  • Optimize sales processes, pipeline management, and forecasting accuracy to enable data-driven decision making
  • Partner with production and supply chain to align sales forecasts with manufacturing capabilities, optimizing inventory and service levels
  • Identify emerging trends and technologies, integrating innovative practices that create competitive advantage
  • Ensure sales strategies incorporate and advance the company's environmental and sustainability commitments

 

To thrive in this role, you’ll have:

  • Proven record of sales leadership success with 8+ years in progressively senior commercial roles, delivering exceptional revenue growth in FMCG, food manufacturing, or related sectors
  • Demonstrable achievements in strategically transforming sales operations and driving market share growth in competitive environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Food Science, or related field; MBA or equivalent commercial leadership qualification highly regarded
  • Exceptional business insight with ability to translate market intelligence into strategic advantage and profitable growth
  • Proven ability to build, motivate, and develop high-performing teams that consistently achieve ambitious targets
  • Sophisticated negotiation skills that secure favourable terms while strengthening strategic customer relationships
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with ability to optimize P&L performance and resource allocation
  • Creative problem-solver who challenges conventional thinking and drives continuous improvement
