We've been proudly bringing joy to tables and smiles to faces with the delicious food we've been crafting for over 100 years. A large part of our strong growth and success is because we're always looking for new ways to do things and thinking about how we can create a better, more sustainable future world together. Our success as an industry leader in providing deliciously good food means we can continue to invest in our future as we work towards becoming Australia and New Zealand's first choice for poultry.
Your opportunity to join our Technology team in North Ryde!
Inghams is seeking a talented AI Engineer to join our AI, Data & Digital Innovation team and drive production AI/ML capabilities that will transform how we operate at scale. This is your opportunity to build advanced forecasting models, implement generative AI solutions, and establish agentic AI Systems at Australia and New Zealand's largest integrated poultry producer—a company that has been bringing families to the table for over 100 years.
We're in the midst of an exciting AI transformation journey, rolling out our cloud AI platform powered by AWS Bedrock. As our AI Engineer, you'll be instrumental in our AI transformation—building production-ready AI systems at pace, deploying demand forecasting models that optimise inventory and production planning, and implementing agent architectures that enable autonomous AI workflows across our enterprise systems
Key responsibilities:
- Rapidly design, build, and deploy production AI systems including agentic workflows, multi-agent orchestration, and autonomous decision-making, moving at pace from concept to production, leveraging foundation models and cloud AI services to deliver business value in weeks rather than months.
- Navigate uncharted territory in AI implementation by experimenting with emerging techniques, novel architectures, and cutting-edge foundation model capabilities.
- Build and iterate on generative AI solutions across diverse use cases including intelligent automation, conversational interfaces, and AI-powered insights. Deploy production GenAI applications rapidly using platforms like AWS Bedrock and Anthropic Claude, optimising for quick wins and measurable business impact.
- Implement sophisticated agent systems and tool-use patterns that autonomously interact with enterprise systems, pushing the boundaries of what AI can accomplish in operational environments.
- Combine traditional ML techniques with modern generative AI capabilities to solve business challenges across multiple domains (forecasting, optimisation, insights, automation).
- Implement agent core architecture on AWS, enabling autonomous AI workflows that integrate with our cloud platform and legacy ERP, manufacturing execution and operational systems
- Utilise Claude AI and Claude Code to accelerate model development, experimentation and deployment cycles, driving rapid innovation and time-to-value
- Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to establish robust MLOps pipelines, ensuring model monitoring, retraining and governance across production environments
- Support consumer analytics and customer intelligence capabilities with advanced ML capabilities including forecasting, segmentation and predictive analytics
- Work with business stakeholders and AI practitioners across the organisation to identify use cases, translate requirements into technical solutions and deliver measurable business outcomes—bridging the gap between AI capabilities and operational needs.
- Develop and maintain model performance metrics, A/B testing frameworks and evaluation processes to ensure model accuracy, reliability and continuous improvement
- Implement responsible AI practices, including bias detection, explainability and compliance with enterprise governance frameworks and AWS security standards
- Coordinate with AWS engineers on advanced ML architecture patterns, leveraging their expertise to implement cutting-edge solutions and stay at the forefront of AWS AI/ML service capabilities.
- Contribute to the AI transformation roadmap, exploring emerging technologies and architectural patterns that shape the strategic direction of our AI/ML capabilities through 2030.
Key requirements:
- Strong machine learning fundamentals with hands-on experience developing, training, and deploying production ML models.
- AWS ML/AI expertise including SageMaker, Bedrock, Lambda, and related services, able to architect and implement end-to-end ML solutions on AWS, from data preprocessing to model deployment and monitoring.
- Production Python experience with strong proficiency in ML libraries and experience writing production-quality code with proper testing, logging, and error handling.
- MLOps and model lifecycle management experience, understanding how to version models, implement CI/CD for ML pipelines, monitor model performance in production, and build automated retraining workflows.
- Generative AI and LLM experience including prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning, and agent architecture, with practical experience deploying GenAI solutions using platforms like AWS Bedrock, OpenAI or Anthropic Claude.
- Model evaluation and experimentation, able to design A/B tests, implement proper train/validation/test splits, use cross-validation effectively, and select appropriate metrics for different business problems.
- Business translation and communication, able to confidently explain ML concepts to non-technical stakeholders, translate business problems and communicate model limitations and trade-offs clearly.
- 4–6 years of hands-on ML engineering experience in commercial environments, with at least 2 years deploying and maintaining production ML systems at scale.
- Proficiency with AI-powered development tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms
- Experience in FMCG, manufacturing, or supply chain environments is advantageous
