Job Description

Your opportunity to join our Finance team in North Ryde!

As the Senior Financial Accountant, you will play a crucial role within our Finance team, supporting the Group Finance Manager whilst overseeing a small team.

This role is responsible for providing high quality, accurate and timely financial accounting support to ensure compliance, enhance decision making and achieve business goals.  A key focus of this role will be to apply a challenging mindset with a view to improve and enhance processes and controls.

This is a great opportunity for someone from a Big 4 background looking to make their first move into a commercial environment, working for an iconic, ASX-listed, FMCG business!

Key responsibilities: 

  • Assist with preparation of annual and half-yearly financial reports
  • Analyse the impact of new accounting standards and presenting technical accounting papers
  • AASB 16 Leases register management
  • Prepare weekly/monthly/ad-hoc journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness of the P&L and Balance Sheet
  • Perform and oversee month-end processes with a focus on ensuring the accuracy of all reconciliations
  • Prepare assigned sections of monthly board pack slides
  • Forecasting and budgeting for group expense
  • Conduct analysis of the general ledger on a monthly or ad-hoc basis, identifying variances against budget (or forecast) and last year and providing commentary explaining material variances.
  • Prepare reports, reconciliations and supporting schedules for external audit team
  • Lead, develop and mentor small team of financial accountants
  • Coordinate and partner with finance and non-finance stakeholders as required
  • Lead and drive process improvements across the business
  • Implement and deliver an effective control environment, through the cascade of group policies and procedures

Key requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance / accounting
  • CPA/ CA or equivalent qualification  
  • Big 4 and ASX listed experience will be highly advantageous
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing direct reports
  • Leases and Fix asset accounting knowledge
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships with a wide stakeholder group to gather inputs and insights on business performance
  • High resilience and ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem solving and strong attention to detail
  • High learning agility, self-learner, with an ability to work in ambiguous environments
  • High personal accountability with an ability to meet deadlines and manage fluctuating work demands
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
