This is an exciting leadership role within Inghams' Growth Team, accountable for regulatory, technical, and specification compliance across the Inghams product portfolio.
The Regulatory, Technical & Specification Compliance Lead is the authority on food standards, labelling legislation, and specification governance, protecting Inghams' brand, consumers, and commercial interests. This role leads a team of Regulatory & Compliance Officers and Specification Coordinator, partnering with the Head of Portfolio, Head of Product Development, QA, Operations, Sales, Procurement, and external customers across Primary Processing, VE, FPP, Branded, and New Concepts portfolios.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and lead the team of Regulatory & Compliance Officers and Specification Coordinator within the Growth team.
- Set clear goals, oversee workloads, and ensure projects meet deadlines — providing regular feedback, performance conversations, and success profiles with direct reports.
- Own and maintain Inghams' regulatory compliance framework across all product categories — Primary, VE, FPP, Branded, and New Concepts.
- Monitor and interpret changes to relevant legislation and industry codes and applicable customer compliance requirements and lead the business response to regulatory change.
- Provide regulatory and technical guidance to the Head of Product Development and PD Team, enabling confident commercial and product decisions.
- Identify and escalate compliance risks across the product portfolio, with clear recommendations and resolution pathways.
- Execute incoming compliance code changes and customer compliance requirements to ensure accurate, current, and legally defensible product labelling.
- Provide clear regulatory guidance on labelling legislation, nutritional claims, allergen declarations, and ingredient specifications.
- Oversee nutritional variance result assessments in consultation with Operations, QA, and customer teams, directing labelling updates as required.
- Champion specification accuracy ensuring ingredient specifications, sourcing plans, and supplier documentation meet regulatory and customer requirements.
- Maintain data integrity across the Inghams Specification network, ensuring consistency and traceability from ingredient sourcing through to finished product.
- Manage supplier specification engagement and support customer specification discussions and technical documentation requirements.
- Support the business during organisational change programmes, including procurement initiatives, packaging changes, plant of production network changes, and new customer onboarding.
- Serve as the point of contact for complex consumer inquiries and complaints relating to labelling, allergens, sensitivities, and product suitability.
- Utilise and champion Inghams' Stage Gate process ensuring all compliance milestones are tracked, approved and met.
Key requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or similar in Food Science, Food Technology or Nutrition.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in regulatory compliance, food standards, or product development.
- Knowledge of the FSANZ Food Standards Code and Australian food labelling legislation including PEAL, ARL, and HSR requirements.
- Experience in the poultry, meat processing, or broader FMCG industry.
- Understanding of food manufacturing operations, ingredient management, and supply chain traceability.
- Exposure to internal audit processes and regulatory examination preparation.
