Job Description

Be the backbone of innovation at one of Australia’s most trusted food brands

Ingham’s Primary Processing site in Burton, SA is on the lookout for a skilled Control & Automation Technician to join our high-performing Engineering team. This is your chance to take ownership of cutting-edge automation systems, drive continuous improvement, and play a critical role in keeping our production lines running safely, efficiently, and at peak performance.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll work alongside an experienced, supportive, and technically strong team where your expertise in automation, controls, and electrical design will be valued and put to real use — not just on paper, but on the floor.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be the go-to problem-solver for our automated systems — from PLCs and HMIs to industrial networks, robotics, and weighing and sorting equipment. Expect variety, autonomy, and the satisfaction of seeing your fixes and improvements make a tangible difference, including:

  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues across PLCs, HMIs, automated processing equipment, and OT networks
  • Designing, implementing, and commissioning control system upgrades and software changes
  • Leading the safety and security of our OT network
  • Supporting maintenance shifts with hands-on technical expertise
  • Mentoring and upskilling team members in automated equipment repair and maintenance
  • Getting involved in the installation of new robotic systems and production equipment
  • Diagnosing equipment failures and getting things back online fast, using drawings, manuals, and your own technical know-how
  • Modifying and rebuilding equipment to meet evolving production demands
  • Driving LEAN and Continuous Improvement initiatives that genuinely move the needle

What you’ll bring

  • Strong PLC, SCADA, and HMI programming skills, with experience in machine commissioning
  • Solid understanding of networks, electrical, mechanical, and control theory
  • Confidence designing, installing, and commissioning automation/control improvements from the ground up
  • Experience with servomotors and controls
  • A hands-on, self-starter mentality with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with Australian standards and machine safety
  • An electrical license (advantageous) and AutoCAD experience (a bonus)
  • A degree or equivalent experience in automation or a related field

Why join Ingham’s?

This isn’t just a maintenance role — it’s an opportunity to shape how automation drives one of the country’s leading food production sites. You’ll have genuine scope to bring your ideas to life, work with modern automated and robotic systems, and be part of a culture that backs Continuous Improvement rather than just talking about it.

We’re looking for people who are curious, caring, courageous, and committed — people who want to bring their best every day to keep delivering food that’s Always Good.

Ingham’s values diverse experience and potential. If you tick some boxes but not all, we’d still love to hear from you — apply today and find out where this role could take you.
